Plato, Pilgrimage, and the Polyfocal Conspectus

Perhaps a cliche, but when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.  With so many Great Books students suddenly unable to go to an International Program for the 2020-2021 school year, it occurred to me that we could at least make it an even better experience once students were able to go to those destinations, whether in an IP program or on their own.  I also had first year Great Books students who otherwise might not have opportunity to work with any of our star upper division former Great Books students.  So I offered to teach the one unit, GSHU111, Great Books Collegium, and recruited first year Great Books students and former Great Books students.  As a class we looked at great works of Art, Music, and Humor that represented our Hebrew, Greek, Roman, and Christian intellectual cornerstones.  A heuristic time had by all.  And then some of us had such a good time we continued on with a project for the Spring Scholarship and Research Symposium: Plato, Pilgrimage, and the Polyfocal Conspectus. Participants organized potential pilgrimage sites that would affirm the pilgrim's legacy from those four traditions.

If you look at all that group of students created, you will understand why I wish I had had this idea fifty years ago before my own first trip to Europe.  Enjoy a heuristic time!
